Nel corso della sua lunga carriera JT ha vinto 5 grammy awards, 40 dischi d'oro oltre a molteplici dischi di platino, nel 1998 ha vinto il Century award il massimo riconoscimento della rivista americana Billboard, nel 2000 è stato insignito nella Rock'n'Roll Hall of Fame e nella prestigiosa Songwriter's Hall of Fame. Il comitato dei Grammy nel 2006 seleziona JT come come MusiCares Person of the Year e nel 2008 il suo album “One Man Band” è nominato agli Emmy Award, nel maggio 2010 pubblica “Live at Troubadour” con l'amica di sempre Carole King, il tour che ne consegue è visto da oltre 500.000 persone e risulterà essere il tour più seguito nell'estate 2010 negli Stati Uniti.
