Have you heard of the famous villas on Lake Como?

It is not possible to list all the villas on the lake and in the surrounding area since there are so many, all extraordinary. Some of them, as is well known, are the private residences of Hollywood stars such as George Clooney, or of great footballers and other VIPs featuring in the international gossip columns.  These can, of course, only be admired from afar, by taking a leisurely boat trip on  the placid waters of the lake.

First of all, while making a tour of the town of Como, you can take in the neoclassical Villa Olmo, the work of the architect Cantoni, who also designed the Villa Serbelloni.
Villa Olmo, with its garden looking out over the lower basin of the lake, is open to tourists and residents, and for many months of the year hosts exclusive and prestigious art exhibitions in its superb rooms with their breathtakingly sumptuous gilded décor.

Even more renowned is the Villa Carlotta, at Tremezzo, also open to visitors, with its Italianate garden of astounding beauty featuring a great variety of plants, including exotic ones. Tourists from all over the world book a stay on Lake Como in order to witness the springtime flowering of the azaleas, for which this antique aristocratic residence is famous. The villa houses valuable artworks and is preserved as a museum, being the former residence of Charlotte of Prussia, after whom the villa is named.

Other names? The above mentioned Villa Serbelloni in the delightful, characteristic village of  Bellagio, also boasting a luxuriant park, can be visited during some months of the year. In the same locality you will find the splendid Villa Melzi d'Eril.

Not to mention Villa Balbaniello, Villa Monastero, Villa Cipressi and so many others that can be viewed from a boat on the lake.
